Day 16: Rest and Remembrance
You ever have those days where you are just exhausted? Same. Today is one of those days, honestly. As I am sitting down to write today, I am reminded of something one of my professors wrote in our discussion board today about resting in the redemptive work of Christ. He wasn't saying this to excuse our sinful actions in life, but to show us that no matter what we do, good or bad, that we cannot earn the grace of God-- He simply has given it and we just receive it.
As I was thinking about this long day that has left me drained and ready for some sleep, God reminded me how sweet it truly is to rest in Him. There is no rest like resting in the arms of our Heavenly Father. By rest, I mean stopping everything else to simply be. Simply be with our God, our King. And as I sit here preparing to put my laptop away and brush the day off me, to sit and simply be with the only One Who truly satisfies my soul, I am reminded of His goodness and mercy. In this place of rest, He brings me to remembrance of all He has done, all He is doing, and all He is.
As we rest in the presence of our Creator, let us remember all He has done and let us remember Who He is. Rest assured that He is the only One who remains constant in an ever-shifting and changing world. And this solid God, this Firm Foundation, this Hope that never fades nor fails-- He is holding you right here and now, friends. Rest in that. Rest in Him.
"Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from Him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; He is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge." Psalm 62:5-8
