Day 14: From the Beginning

Tonight at Bible study we read the first three chapters of Genesis and took a step back to ask a few questions. "In the beginning, God created the Heavens and the Earth..." I feel like I've quoted that in a Sunday school voice since the day I could speak. But recently God has been urging me to go back to the beginning to re-learn some things and learn some new things. That is the amazing thing about the Word of God, you can read it a hundred times and still learn something new from it every time if you open your soul-ears to listen for what the Lord is speaking.

From the beginning God is spoken of in the plural form (Hebrew name of God "Elohim" is used in Genesis 1:1, which is the plural form of the name "El" )... As Father, Son, Holy Spirit, from the very start of time. So, why, then, would He create human beings when He already had perfect community within Himself?

Perhaps to love, to show His great and endless love to us? I don't have the answers, just thoughts and the little bit I can comprehend about how great God's character is. What do you think? (Please share your thoughts in the comments).

We see that God already had perfect community yet He chose to create the Earth, animals, life itself, and He chose to make man... in His image, as a son or daughter. And from the get-go, He has a purpose for us.

Before He created humans He created an Earthly home for us, He prepared plants that provided food for us, and He made the skies, oceans, lights in the sky for both day and night, animals, etc. and after all the He rested. Perhaps He was setting the standard, showing us how to work and create but then to take a day and truly rest from all our work. To show us that though we have purpose and work set before us, our purpose is not in being a workaholic.

Anyways, He sets this standard and gives man a job... to name the animals.

From the beginning, God creates and He invites us to create with Him. From the beginning, He provides a home for us. From the beginning, He made us to never be alone. From the very beginning, He had a plan and a purpose for us.

So rest in that. Maybe you don't know what your "calling" is. Maybe you don't know what to do tomorrow let alone the rest of your life. Well, don't you fret, my friend, because God has had a purpose for you from the very beginning. To be with you, create with you, love you. And For you to truly be with Him, present in His presence, to create something amazing and heaven-touched with Him, and to love Him with all of your heart, mind, soul, and strength.

From the beginning, you were sought and loved. I pray you find ultimate joy and purpose in that today and every day, friend.

"The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness." Jeremiah 31:3
