Day 26: The Unraveling
Have you ever had something in your life that you held onto so tightly that your spiritual/mental/emotional knuckles began to lose color, sucking the life out of you? Have you ever had that one thing that you just wanted so bad that you would do whatever it took to hold it all together on your own? Just to watch it fade and crumble? Just to watch that thing you worked so hard for, fought for, believed in, and put everything, your whole self into, just fall apart? When our desires and plans begin to unravel, our whole being seems to go along with it. We lose it to some extent. But there is grace and healing for that.
What's your thing? What's something you hold onto for dear life, as if tightening your grip will keep it secure? I got lot's of things, plenty of things I've had to, time and time again, learn to let go of. And you would think we'd learn by now. You would think that after so many times of doing this, that God would just give up on us... but He never does and never will.
But as we let go of trying to control our situations and circumstances, as we let our fingers off that one thing and open up our hands to the Sovereign Creator, He unravels us in an unexpected way. As we unravel ourselves from the things we hold so tightly to, God unravels our hearts to reveal our deeper needs and desires that were covered up with all those "things" we tried to fill the void with. And He begins our healing when we allow Him to. He begins to do surgery on our hearts in the areas we keep hidden from everyone, even trying to hide it from ourselves.
There is freedom in the unraveling. There is a release of this feeling of false responsibility that we have to fulfill the promises of God when-- hello-- It's GOD'S promises, not ours. When we consistently give ourselves over to Him, all our desires, hopes, dreams, fears, not putting a death grip on anything, we experience the true joy and peace of trusting God no matter the outcome.
So take time today... take time today and everyday to release whatever you hold in your hands... that relationship, job, opportunity, desire, dream, financial situation, etc. Release it to your Heavenly Father. He gives good gifts to His children. He fulfills His promises. He is good. Trust that, trust Him to be who He says He is. Let Him undo all your doings and take lead over your life. There is true, free life when we let go, let God do His will, and embrace the unraveling.
"So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him." Matthew 7:11
“Be still, and know that I am God..." Psalm 46:10
"Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert." Isaiah 43:19
