Day 13: The Voice that Stills
Earlier this evening I felt bombarded with lies of the enemy filling my head. You know those black holes you go into, thinking of situations that have happened or haven't happened yet imagining it would, thinking of the way you should have responded to it, thinking of how you should have done this or that... how you don't like this about yourself and you wish you could change that... the tears welling up inside as you feel a tornado of chaos trying to overtake you? But there is a voice... a voice that if you would only reach out for, aks for, and listen to that will make the noise vanish. As this was happening to me tonight I decided to focus in on God's voice rather than the lies the enemy was trying to inflict me with... I was in my bathroom and opened a drawer to get my hairbrush when I caught a glance of a paper from a fortune cookie laying inside the draw. "Nah, God is not going to speak to you through some Panda Express fortune cookie!" But the moment right after that I heard "God can speak in any way He likes..." So I picked up the paper, which read, "You have every reason to be confident". A right on time, specific word for that particular situation.
I could hear the Father speaking, "Child... you have every reason to be confident, especially in my voice. Have I ever failed you before? Have I ever abandoned you before? No... So listen, follow my voice, what I ask of you... I will never lead you astray, for I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life and I am the voice that stills all your fears and pain and confusion."
The voice you amplify is the voice you live by. Are you amplifying hope, joy, truth, love, grace, kindness, courage, the goodness of the Lord? Or are you amplifying pain, hatred, self-hatred, insecurity, shame, the lies of the enemy? Whatever voice you are amplifying, that you are speaking into existence, that is the voice in which you live by, and that is the voice that determines where you go and what you do and how you do it. Are you tuning into the voice of God or the voice of the enemy?
When lies fill your head, and worry tries to overtake your soul, when fear comes creeping in with ideas that leave you feeling heartbroken and alone, just call on Jesus. Ask for His truth to permeate your heart, for Him to speak to you and to the pain and confusion directly. And with one simple word, one single breath, His voice stills all the fears. His voice stills the lies, the worries, the questions, the raging seas, everything. Take a moment, whatever state you feel you are in mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and listen in to hear the Holiest of Holies, the Voice that stills.
"The voice of the Lord echoes above the sea. The God of glory thunders. The Lord thunders over the mighty sea. The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic." Psalm 29:3-4
The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you ”they are full of the Spirit and life." John 6:63
“This is what the Lord says, He who made the earth, the Lord who formed it and established it—the Lord is His name: “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know."
Jeremiah 33:2-3
