Day 9: To Know You Deeper

I can still see so clearly in my mind back about 5 years ago, sitting in the apartment alone with a candle lit and Will Reagan playing in the background. That worn out Bible in front of me starred with its face open, urging me to take to heart the words I was reading. I remember telling God again, "whatever you would have of me I will do"... I don't know why that specific moment sticks out to me more than the other times, but it seems as though that was the beginning of a deeper seeking of the Lord.

We often seek God in want of something. We want the peace, we want the provision, we want the job, the marriage, the healing, whatever it is-- all good things to want and to ask the Provider for, but somewhere along the way we seemed to have lost our love for the Giver in pursuit of the gift. It was never meant to be that way. Yes, He is the Giver of all good things and He desires your requests, to bless you and answer you, but He also desires to give you something so much better, something life-giving and lasting... Himself.

As I journal my prayers to the Lord, I've noticed times where I have been cramming in all these requests and not taking the time to simply be... to simply be with Him. To listen to His heart. To hear what He is speaking and feel His presence overwhelm me. He wants us to know Him deeper, He desires to give us what nothing in this world could ever satisfy. He wants us to seek His plans for our lives and listen for what He would have us do in every situation and season of life, but He also is a Lover... a Lover who simply wants you to spend time with Him, to get to know Him more, to soak up His presence.

The Creator already knows you from the inside out. He knows every detail of your existence, your deepest fears and dreams, why you react to things the way you do, what you truly desire, everything, down to the very speck of your being, He already knows... and He wants us to know Him deeper. He is limitless, without end, there is no amount of wisdom and knowledge that could sufficient in fully knowing Him... we will always be learning more and more of who He is. He wants us to enter in to being with Him not so He can know us more because He already knows every little thing about us, but it is because He wants to be with us and for us to know Him deeper.

Seek Him today. Take time to seek your Heavenly Father today, not just for all your requests and rantings, but to truly spend time with Him, hear His souls song, and love Him and accept the unconditional, unfathomable love He has for us.

Lord, we want to know You... open our hearts to Your presence and love today and everyday, to be with You, love You, and to know You deeper.
