Day 4: Just Us

Often times when talking about having intimacy with our Creator people get freaked out by that idea. Because of the influence of our society, intimacy is not seen so much as a sweet, innocent thing as it is perceived as something dirty in our culture today. But intimacy, true intimacy with our Savior is simply the closeness, friendship, love, familiarity, and understanding of Him and Him with us.

"How can I be intimate with a God I don't even see and sometimes don't even hear?"

Well, you can't be in a real, loving, deep relationship with someone you don't know and don't spend time with. You can't understand someone you avoid until you need something from them or you're at your wit's end.

Same with God.

This past year, some wisdom-filled leaders and friends had spoken over my life that God was drawing me into a place of deeper intimacy with my Savior. And really, in any and every season of life, we are meant to be drawing closer to Him.

In every success and every failure, every question and answer, every heartbreak and love-filled moment... everything in this life, whatever we face is meant to draw us closer to the Father.

We have the choice every moment of every day to draw closer to our God. What an amazing opportunity we so take for granted! Not only do we have the ability to enter into His presence because of what Jesus did on the cross for us, but He also deeply desires for us to be in His presence... to enter in, not to just say a bunch of holy-sounding words or "get in our time for the day" but to simply be... with Him.

Every day you wake up to a new day that you grumble to get out of bed for, He is the Lover that excitedly stands there waiting to embrace you, anticipating you to just be with Him.

He's the God who sees you. He is the God who knows you. He is the God who wants you and desires you, just as you are. Come home, child. Come home weary, come tired, come dirty, come with questions. Come to Him whatever shape you are spiritually in and feel His peace that surpasses all understanding and His love that makes all the fears fade away. Intimacy with our God is the only thing that can satisfy our deep desires. He is the only one who can fill the hollowness inside.

Wherever you are as you read this and ponder it in your heart, I pray you stop-- take a moment-- and just listen in to the Father's heart... hear Him saying, "I delight in you, Love. There's no other place that can fulfill you like I will and there is no other place that I want to be than here where it is just us."

"The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing." Zephaniah 3:17

"You make known to me the path of life; You will fill me with joy in Your presence, with eternal pleasures at Your right hand." Psalm 16:11
