Day 28: A Beautiful Betrothal
Before you were born there was a lover that betrothed Himself to you. Before you were ready to commit or before you even decided if you ever would commit to Him, He made the lifetime commitment, agreement, vow that He would love you through sickness, health, sin, shame, pride, ignorance, rejection, hatred, questioning, for better and for worse, when you let human emotions run wild in your relationship with Him, when you let the world come before Him in your life, He STILL betrothed you to Himself. He still committed. He still said "yes" to a relationship that He already knew would be bumpy. He already knew you would be unfaithful and that you would choose others instead of Him, yet God still paid the price for the chance of having your heart completely and fully.
What other man leaves a high position, to come to such a lowly position, to be beaten and tortured and killed by the very ones He left His high kingdom for? What other man would leave the perfection of Heaven to come down to our level to offer freedom and everlasting love just to be rejected? What man proposes to a future bride already knowing she was unfaithful to Him? The love of Jesus... it doesn't make sense. We can't grasp it because we aren't anything like it and there is no one and nothing on earth the possesses the vastness, the limitless, everlasting love of Christ. How do we respond to such a Lover?
We respond to this perfect love with sweet surrender. Surrendering our ideas of what love is in order to accept the love He lavishes on us so unconditionally, a love so relentless that we can't understand it fully. We respond in acceptance, in confidence that He loves us despite the mistakes we've made, in confidence that He forgives and keeps loving, not keeping count of wrongs, no, but just loving you for simply existing. He wants your heart. He wants it all. The messiness, the dirtiness, the confusion, the pain, the dreams, all of it, and He wants to give you something far more overwhelmingly beautiful--- His heart. We always think about how we give our hearts to God but have you ever thought about what He gives also? The Creator of all, the perfect, almighty God gives YOU His heart. He made the decision a long time ago, He's already sold out for you. Are we the same way with Him?
He just wants to be with you. To wrap you up in your loving arms, to heal, mend, restore your heart and all the broken places in your life. He wants to forgive and make new, all the areas of your life, even the hidden ones you think no one else sees. Take it personally, please, He desires you. Enter His presence today. Enter His presence with gratitude for having His perfect, loving heart. Let the worries of the world fade away and be wrapped up in such a beautiful betrothal.
"And I will betroth you to me forever. I will betroth you to me in righteousness and in justice, in steadfast love and in mercy. I will betroth you to me in faithfulness. And you shall know the Lord."
Hosea 2:19-20
"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:38-39
