Day 26: Powerless Fear

Fear, my old "friend", that use to disguise itself as a safe place, a place that I would not get hurt in and would not be alone in, at least that's what it promised me. Fear, and its cunning ways of covering up the truth with colorful lies of the devastation that could result from not living in it. Fear... a consuming idol that we bow to in our disobedience to the Father who is the exact opposite of fear.

Fear. Whatever it is to you and whatever it is keeping you from or keeping you in, it is common to all of us in that it cripples us. It takes the life in us and sucks it out to be disposed of and replaced with itself. It consumes us... but only if we let it. When we allow fear an entrance into our hearts and lives, it will ultimately become the most powerful drive inside you. It is a cancer, a virus, a disease that eats us alive from the inside out... but only if we let it. You have the choice to either welcome fear into your life or to ignore its calls.

About a year ago I had written something I was really proud of and excited to share. Someone I loved dearly and whose opinion I valued highly, and who probably meant well, tore me apart on it. I was devasted. I couldn't stop thinking about it. And fear, like a thief walking through a door left open, crept in. It consumed me. It bled out of my heart and into different areas of my life, not only making me delete every attempt to write again for months after but also in silencing my voice, keeping my mouth shut, becoming unhealthily reclusive, holding everything in, shutting out others, and ultimately it made me start to question my worth and my identity. One pain left unchecked and fear will come rushing in. One situation of heartbreak where you do not reiterate who you are and Whose you are and fear starts to take territory.

Stop giving fear that power. Fear alone is powerless. The only way fear has power is if you give it power if you give it praise if you give it your identity, something to constantly feed off of. What you give power to direct you, you praise. Whatever you choose to let identify you and guide your life, will control you and determine the destination of your life. Don't hand over your life to the characteristics of the devil. You are a child of God. Fear has no place in you. You worship God, not fear. Start living like it. Fear and Love cannot exist in the same place. Fear and Courage cannot reside in the same space. You have the choice of what you give the power to guide your heart and life.

The endless amount of joy and freedom I have personally experienced in truly giving up fear and diving head first into whatever God has for me and asks of me is inconceivable. Say yes to God and no to fear, I promise you won't regret it. Is God telling you to go talk to that stranger? Do it and see a life changed or stay back in fear and watch another soul go on in discouragement. God tell you to leave that job and go into that ministry full-time? Do it and see lives transformed, including yours, or listen to fears lies and stay at a place where you are not called and die a slow, painful spiritual death. The choice is yours.

Fear is a liar straight from hell. Fear doesn't tell you what you will be missing out on if you keep living in it. Fear doesn't make a life of truly living and it most certainly doesn't change anyone's life for the better. You were called to hope, love, joy, peace, comfort, boldness, and courage, not fear. Stop letting it control your life. Stop giving it power. When you let go of the reigns and let the Lord of all take the lead on your life, when you give Him the open door to your heart, and you listen to His voice and Who He calls you, you live a life of courage, full of the goodness of Jesus, and here you crown Jesus King of your life, not powerless fear.

"Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love." 1 John 4:18

“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid."

John 14:27

"This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:9
