Day 15: Dreaming with the King

Tonight I was at a meeting for a ministry I work with called Redeem. Our mission is to bring hope and freedom to victims of sex trafficking, prostitution, and really the vision has turned into setting all free from the bondage of sexual sin and exploitation. Earlier today I already had the title for this devotional, but I had not written any content yet. Before this Redeem meeting tonight, another leader and I were talking about the dreams we have for this ministry, these big, crazy dreams that seem impossible to the world but with God we know is possible. This leader said during the meeting, "You can't dream big enough for God, but you can try!" So I want to challenge you today to try. I don't think it is a coincidence that God keeps speaking dreams over His children.

So many times we talk about having these big dreams but we don't step out in faith to achieve those dreams. We say God can do anything but when it comes to our dreams we often times put them on the backburner of our prayers and we don't actively believe God can make it happen. We think "well God is going to do His will and so my dreams will happen eventually and He will do what He wants to do." Will God's will be done? Yes. Will He do what He has said He will? Yes. But are our prayers worthless? No. Not at all. Is praying for our dreams a lost cause? Absolutely, big fat NO.

The other week my dad asked in one of his sermons that every time we see miracles in the Bible did the people receiving the miracle just say, "Well God is just going to do what He wants, it's already destined to be, He won't hear my prayers" or did they pray bold prayers in confidence that God would answer their prayers? Yep, the latter. They prayed those prayers and they got their miracles, they got those dreams. They aligned their heart with God's, as we must also, and they got what they prayed for.

God wants to hear your prayers. Does He know the desires of your heart, your dreams, your prayers before you even say them or think them? Yes, of course. But it is so sweet to Jesus when we actively tell Him our dreams and ask Him to fulfill them. His will WILL be done, but your prayers still change things, your prayers still move mountains, your prayers are requests a child gives to their father. And we all know that we have a Father who takes joy in blessing us. So let's live by that truth. He wants to answer your prayers, to shift your circumstances, to fulfill your dreams that align with His heart.

Your prayers to God are requests you make to a Father. You shouldn't ask with insecurity. You are a child of God and you have unlimited access to Him and He never grows tired of hearing your requests. Ask with confidence, knowing your Heavenly Father hears you and delights in your requests to Him. Knowing He wants to give you good, life-giving things. That He wants to fulfill your His-sized dreams, because He is even bigger than that and wants to answer your prayers, to fulfill your dreams.

He isn't a God that looks at your prayers and then says "Oh, I will do that later." No, He is the God that hears you, before you even speak the words or think that thought or dream that dream, and He is expectantly waiting for you to send your requests up to Him, and He responds saying, "Thank you for asking. I'm already working on it, my beautiful child."

See, when you are dreaming with a King, with THE King of ALL, you have unlimited power because HE is your Father. He is limitless, your Father is capable of all, so don't you ever for a second get to thinking that your prayers are too big, too risky, too crazy, too unsafe, too anything for God. But He is asking you to please... please try dreaming bigger and bigger dreams, because none of those things are out of the question, are too big when you are dreaming with the King.

"Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours." Mark 11:24

"You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God." James 4:2

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!" Matthew 7:7-11
