Day 12: A Deeper Hunger
I know there are plenty out there who can agree with me that they are always hungry, right? Though this small frame may state otherwise, I am almost always hungry. Earlier today I was driving somewhere and on the way there I ate a granola bar, then I got to my destination, was there for less than 30 minutes, got back in my car and ate a pear on the way home and was STILL hungry. While I am sure there are ways to fill my physical hunger in a better way like eating more protein or actually sitting down for a meal rather than running around constantly, there is one hunger I always have, and that can always be fulfilled.
A hunger for the Lord. What is so amazing and hard to grasp about the presence of God and word of God is that while we are fully satisfied in Him, we should always still be hungry for more.
A true sign of love is when you spend the whole day with someone and after you leave to go home, you still crave to be with them. As it should be with our relationship with God.
Here's the thing too... we desperately need God, every single moment of every day, and God doesn't need us yet He still wants us, He still desires time with us. You married lovebirds out there, when you first met your spouse and you two started hanging out, didn't you want to spend all the time you could with them? Didn't you want to never leave? And isn't that part of why you made the commitment to become one with them, so that you never have to leave each other again?
The more time you spend with your Creator, the more you fall in love with Him, the more you love Him, the more time you want with Him. And you can never get enough of this Lover. He is never gone, never out of town, He never dips out cause things are difficult or because He was offered better plans, no... He is always there, waiting to fill that deep hunger in your soul.
And He always satisfies.
When we begin to see our deep need for Jesus, when we start to spend time in the secret place with Him, we begin to see the peace and joy and overwhelming love that flows in and through us from being with Him. We begin to understand His heart better, we begin to become more like Him. And aside from that, it is simply amazing just to be in the presence of God.
Can you understand that? Can you grasp that? The God of the universe wants you, He desires to spend time with you? He wants to fulfill your hunger, your thirst for love, for His perfect, unconditional love, for His constant presence, to just be with Him. And He is always there, with arms wide open, waiting to fill you up. Today, let's not just pray for a deeper hunger, but let's live by that deeper hunger by seeking Him first, and making time in the secret place, in His presence our priority every single moment of every day. Only He can satisfy your deep, soul-hunger.
"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled." Matthew 5:6
"The Bread of God is He Who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” They said to Him, “Sir, give us this Bread all the time.” Jesus said to them, “I am the Bread of Life. He who comes to Me will never be hungry. He who puts his trust in Me will never be thirsty." John 6:33-35
"You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you. On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. I cling to you; your right hand upholds me." Psalm 63:1-8
