Day 11: The Best Yes
We are constantly bombarded with questions, with choices in our lives. Every day we make the choice to get up out of bed or to lay there and wait for the next alarm to go off. We choose to eat breakfast or to just grab a cup of joe and head out the door. We get the opportunity every day to make choices, to say "yes" and "no" to a million different things in one day.
Do all these questions eventually just make up most of our days? Or do we make one choice every morning that effects and controls every other choice and question we answer the rest of the day? I believe the second one is what we should be doing.
We get the opportunity every day of our lives to choose to wake up from our slumber and to either embrace the blessing of another day ahead of us or to wake up physically and stay asleep spiritually and just drag ourselves through another day. How do you think we, as believers of the Creator of all, should respond to a brand new day?
Every day is a gift from God. Every heartbeat is a precious, beautifully wrapped present from the Lord himself. In knowing Who we are and Whose we are, we must also react to Who has given us another day by giving Him praise and glory through it all.
The best "yes" you could ever give in response is not to the guy who asked you out on a date, the donut store on the corner of the street, or even the boss who is offering a promotion. While all those things are great, nothing on Earth could ever compare to saying "yes" to Jesus today and every single day.
The best "yes" you could ever say is "yes" to God. Yes to His promises. Yes to His goodness. Yes to His blessings, His callings, His strength, courage, hope, joy, peace, comfort, love. Saying Yes to Jesus in the secret place, doing what He tells you to do even when it's not popular and no one sees it coming, will reflect in our everyday life choices, showing that with all our being we are saying yes to Jesus.
The best yes is not to the marriage proposal, it's not to the school acceptance letter, the raise, or anything else. The best is and always will be the yes you say to Jesus once and for all and for every single day of every single moment of your life. It is the answer that affects all other answers.
In saying yes to Jesus as you wake up today, you are making the active choice to choose His ways, His will, His callings, joy, hope, and love. You are also making the choice to not let this day be just like every other day... to not let it be like everyone else's day. Instead of dragging through another day, waiting for it to be over so you can go back to sleep, when we choose Jesus every morning, we make every step of our day a joyful noise, a praise song to Jesus.
As you awaken this morning, prepare to go to sleep tonight, or as you read this on your lunch break I encourage you to make the best decision you could make all day, which is saying "of course!" to Jesus by spending time in His presence and letting Him be the answer for your day and all your life. Choose joy today, choose hope today, choose gratefulness today, but most of all, choose Jesus today, for that is the best yes.
"So let God work his will in you. Yell a loud no to the Devil and watch him scamper. Say a quiet yes to God and he’ll be there in no time. Quit dabbling in sin. Purify your inner life. Quit playing the field. Hit bottom, and cry your eyes out. The fun and games are over. Get serious, really serious. Get down on your knees before the Master; it’s the only way you’ll get on your feet." James 4:8 (MSG)
"As for God, His way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless; He shields all who take refuge in Him." Psalm 18:30
"For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory." 2 Corinthians 1:20
