I am an absolute lover of love. When I was little I would always want to be snuggled up to my parents, be held by someone, or just to simply be close to someone I know and love. As I have grown, that really hasn't changed much at all. There is always this deep craving inside me to be held in a safe, loving way by that special someone. I have thought this desire has been fueled by this season of singleness and waiting on the future spouse God has for me, but lately, God has been teaching me that this desire can't be fully satisfied by any human being, even the closest lover.
While marriage is a beautiful picture of Christ's love for the Church, it cannot give us everything we are wanting and truly needing in our hearts.
Intimacy with our God is the only thing that can satisfy our deep desires. He is the only one who can fill the hollowness inside.
We often search everywhere, in so many different things, careers, accomplishments, relationships, people, etc. to find this love we hunger and thirst for, and we always come up empty-handed. Sadly, it is usually not until we are at the ends of ourselves that we turn to the Creator of this desire, to the One who is Love himself.
But even when we turn to Him as the last resort, He still stands there with arms wide open to our weary souls, waiting for us to run into His arms so He can fill that hole in our souls, to fulfill the desires, to let us hunger and thirst no longer for that love we've been looking for.
Even in the wandering. Even in the striving. Even in the searching and running and blindness. He keeps His arms open, His heart open to us, knowing that we could in a second change our minds and go the other way... and even when we do, He still remains there waiting for you. I don't know any other love like that.
It is in these places of realization that He is the love of our lives that we become truly satisfied. There is nothing as sweet as entering into the secret place of just the Savior and your self, raw and unhidden, where God wraps your soul up in His arms and speaks His truth and love over you. Where He fills you with this peace and comfort and joy beyond understanding.
He doesn't just desire to speak to our needs. He desires simply to be with us.
Every day you wake up to a new day that you grumble to get out of bed for, He is the Lover that excitedly stands there waiting to embrace you, anticipating you to just be with Him.
You wake up and He says, "There they are! Awake for a new day full of my mercies! That's my child... Oh, I can't wait for them to invite me into their day. I can't wait to just spend time with you... for it to just be you and I."
So maybe you're not the lovey-dovey type like me... well, it doesn't matter. Because there is still a need in you as well as every single one of our souls in this world to be held by our Creator.
When the world fades away, when all my fairytale dreams fail and fade, when there is no one here to physically hold me, when no love on earth can come anywhere near touching my need, there He still is, waiting for me patiently and in joyous excitement, to come to this place with Him where it is just "You and I".
He wants to hold you today. He wants to be with you. Take time to just soak up all the goodness you possibly can of His relentless, unconditional, passionate love for you.
"And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord."
"For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you." Isaiah 41:13
"The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing." Zephaniah 3:17
