The One

It's that time of year again. The time where hearts seem to be floating everywhere, there are fancy dinner reservations, boxes of chocolates, couples looking into each others eyes. Valentines day. People seem to either adore the day or despise it for various reasons. But for some, it is a painful reminder. While some may celebrate the day with that significant other or with friends, there are some who can't help but feel like it's just another ordinary, lonely day. There is a soldiers wife awaiting her lovers return, a married couple mourning the loss of a child, a widow wishing she could see her husbands face again, a young man missing his parents, a child who just wants a friend at school, a young lady trapped in an abusive relationship. But not just them. There is the popular girl at school, a neighbor, a pregnant teenage girl, the waiter at the restaurant, your best friend. People of all sorts of backgrounds, from all over the world, feeling completely alone. All they want is someone... Someone to listen. To hold them. To encourage them. Someone to love them. Someone to comfort them, to remind them they are not alone. But the truth is, we all feel lonely at some point in our lives… in fact, a lot of times we feel lonely. Even those who are the most popular, who are very well liked, get extremely lonely. In fact, those are sometimes the loneliest people. Have you ever been in a crowded room, or even surrounded by a group of people who love you, and still felt completely alone? Yeah, we've all felt like that before. It's like there is a hole in each and every one of us that no amount of people can fill…Yet we still try to fill it with people or activities to keep us busy and distracted from that void. That feeling is there for a reason. But do NOT lose hope because that hole can be filled, by One and only One. The One. No, not "the one" in the terms our society uses that phrase. Not that special guy or gal you've been waiting for. I'm talking about the one and only true One. Your Creator. God. The One who knows you from the inside out, who knows your heart and soul, who knows every single thing you've done, good and bad. The One who knows all the pain you've been through, who sees all the trials you are facing right now, who is right there as you toss and turn in your bed at night. "You’ve kept track of my every toss and turn through the sleepless nights, Each tear entered in your ledger, each ache written in your book." Psalms 56:8 Why would God let me feel this loneliness? Why would He allow this hole that can't be filled by anyone else to be in me? Why would He just sit there and watch me in my pain? Because He is the only one who can fill it and He desires for you to seek Him. He knows what is best for you and He is teaching you something through this painful season of your life. He wants you to depend on Him as your strength… to trust Him. He loves you more than anyone else ever could. He died and rose so that you could not only live forever but so that you can experience His amazing, unfailing, never-ending, relentless love. So that you truly never have to be alone. So that you can experience a comfort and peace and joy that far exceeds your circumstances. When you feel that loneliness, God is tugging on your heart, urging you to spend time with Him. When someone loves you they want to spend time with you, and He loves you more than you could ever imagine, so how much more does He desire your time and attention! It's crazy how we so crave attention from other people. We desire their approval, their love, their time and affection. Yet GOD, Who is PERFECT, the DEFINITION OF LOVE, Who sees every single disgusting, sinful thing we've done yet still loves us so passionately, more than anyone else, gets our "left over" love, time, and attention. We toss Him to the side like He isn't our top priority, we look to others before Him. Can you imagine how much that must hurt God? Yet even after you put Him off, He still loves you just as much. Even when we let ourselves feel so lonely even though He is right there desiring your undivided attention, He still loves us despite of our blindness to His amazing love. So instead of looking to others for love, why not look to true, perfect, absolute love? He is waiting for you…Take a moment, before you do anything else, to spend time with the One. Be filled with His love, and the peace you will feel from soaking in His presence will far exceed any loneliness you will ever experience. "Be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Matthew 28:20 "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God." 1 Corinthians 1:3-4 "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:38-39 Somewhere out there in the world, Cami G.
